Governor of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China

Mr. Xuekerat Zakir was appointed as the Governor of Xinjiang in December of 2014. Mr. Xuekerat is responsible for the overall administration of the Xinjiang, one of the five autonomous regions of China, which is inhabited by various ethnic groups with Uygur as the majority. Prior to this, Xuekerat served as the Chairman of People’s Congress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2014 and Vice Chairman of People’s Congress of PRC from July 2011 to December of 2013. Before this, Xuekerat served as the standing member of CCP committee of Xinjiang Production and Construction Crops from 2005 to 2011.

In 2000, Xuekerat was appointed as the major of Urumqi City, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and served in Urumqi government till the end of 2005. Started his administrative career as a staff of Xinjiang Economic Commission, Xuekerat had worked in the economic field for 16 years from 1984 to 2000, and his last post in the Economic Commission was the Deputy Director-General. Prior to this he worked in educational institutions in Xinjiang since 1972. Xuekerat was born in August 1953 in Ili Prefecture of Xinjiang and he holds an EMBA degree of China Social Sciences Academy.
